In 2005 Golf Digest calculated that there were nearly 32,000 golf courses in the world, approximately half of them in the United States.

Since World War I, America has produced the greatest quantity of leading Golf professionals. The last decade or so has seen a marked increase in specialized golfing vacations or holidays worldwide. This demand for travel which is centered around golf has lead to the development of many luxury resorts which cater to golfers and feature integrated golf courses.

Motivate Employees and Thank Customers

OVERVIEW:

An electrical components manufacturer was having trouble with its promotion to motivate employees and thank customers.  It decided to use a variety of promotional products to help at each level.

For the customer aspect of the campaign, a demo van visited mechanics and trades people for hands-on training and handed out drink insulators, caps, and hats imprinted with the program’s name.

For the employee aspect, the workers were separated into teams and participated in sales challenges with increasing levels of difficulty.  Promotional products were awarded at each level starting with golf shirts and Swiss Army Knives for the smaller challenges and golf bag covers and digital cameras for higher levels.

OUTCOME:

The participants were all fishermen, outdoorsmen, and golfers so they loved the items, especially the PGA golf bag covers.  Also, the company surpassed its goal by increasing sales by almost $2.2 million.

Promote New Shoe

OVERVIEW:

A shoe company known for its golf cleats wanted have a special promotion for its new style of cleat.  The company decided to send special golf shoe bags featuring prototypes and information about the groundbreaking shoe to some of the top shoe vendors to give them a sense of what they would be selling.

OUTCOME:

The golf shoes became some of the top sellers for the company.

OBJECTIVE:

Golf Tournament Souvenir

OVERVIEW:

A car dealership wanted to increase sales of its limited edition vehicles.  As an incentive, it created gifts to accompany every purchase.  One of the gifts was a customized golf bag designed to match the vehicle’s interior coloring.  New owners received this gift as well as a congratulatory letter, business reply card and catalog of additional merchandise.

OUTCOME:

About 75% of recipients said they would likely buy another vehicle as a result of the gifts.  In addition, 62% said brand loyalty brought them into the showroom and 39% said the golf package was the reason they bought the car.  Overall, the entire promotion sold 10% more of the cars.

Golf Tournament Souvenir

OVERVIEW:

A university was holding a small golf tournament for some of its most revered alumni and donors. The tournament organizers wanted to provide each participant with a reminder of the event.  They went with the Executive Putter Set featuring a putter, 2 practice balls and a putting ring.  The outside of the kit featured the university’s seal. A Putter Set was given to each participant at the close of the tournament.

OUTCOME:

The alumni and donors appreciated their gifts. Many of the participants made donations to the university that day.

OVERVIEW: A public golf course was holding it’s annual “Golf Olympics,” featuring a longest drive contest, a putting competition and various other events.  Winners of each event received a golf umbrella imprinted with the golf course’s logo.
OUTCOME:

The large turnout at the event surprised its organizers and the number of participants for the following year doubled.

OBJECTIVE: Prevent Dirt Being Tracked in From the Course
OVERVIEW: A country club was having problems with mud being tracked into the bar from golfers after they had played a round.  The club realized it would be practical to provide each club member with a logoed golf towel they could use to clean their golf cleats after each golf outing before entering the bar.
OUTCOME:

Over time the staff noticed less dirt being tracked into the bar area from the course.

OBJECTIVE: Increase Product Visibility
OVERVIEW:

A beverage company wanted to increase visibility of its products on grocery shelves.  An “In-Store Score” campaign was created to motivate 500 managers and salespeople during the yearlong promotion.  The personnel received five mailings on how to SCORE, each of which contained several fun and unique specialty items.  The kickoff mailing included three products, one of which was an imprinted golf tee packet.

OUTCOME:

The company surpassed its goal of a 10% sales increase by generating more than a 200% increase.

OBJECTIVE: Keep the Course In Good Shape
OVERVIEW:

A country club pro-shop wanted to promote keeping the course clean and in good golfing shape.  With every purchase made in the pro shop, a divot fixer featuring the country club’s name was included.

OUTCOME:

Club patrons made an extra effort to use the divot fixers on all of their golf outings.
