Wacky Beverage Launch: Bawls Guarana Proves It’s Sweet on Geeks

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

Most brands are interested in tapping “influencers.” You know, the cool people who have a large network of really cool friends. Not Bawls Guarana. This brand of energy drink is more interested in attracting the guy dressed as Darth Vader.Bawls relishes its role as being the official drink of geeks everywhere. So much so, it launched a series of “Geek Singles Nights” in conjunction with the online dating site Sweet on Geeks. The first matchmaking party kicked off in April in Lauderhill, FL. The event, naturally, was held at a comic book store. Raffles, displays of light saber skills and speed dating was in the air as local members of the 501st legion of Star Wars enthusiasts were invited to attend in full costume.

Beyond giving “Yoda” and “Princess Leia” the chance to hook up, the inaugural event was also an opportunity to launch the brand’s new flavor Bawls G33K B33R. “Drinking Bawls G33K B33R is a fun, refreshing way for anyone to celebrate their inner geek,” says Hobart C. Buppert, owner of Hobarama Corp., which produces Bawls Guarana. “To further celebrate geekiness at singles night events, Bawls distributes non-traditional, branded items including Bawls G33K eyeglasses, taped and all, for fans to get their geek on.”

Rather than mix alcohol in with its drink, like many energy drink brands, Bawls distributes G33K B33R floats. The company also gives away branded T-shirts, stickers and drawstring bags.

Bawls also regularly sponsors video gaming competitions (more than 1,000 per year) as well as the 2008 Geek Prom. Geek singles nights will make their way across the country with Jacksonville, FL., Minneapolis and San Francisco on the schedule. So this would indeed be a good time to shine up your Stormtrooper costume in case a cute droid happens by.

An earth-friendlier manufacturer of custom-printed paper, plastic and polypropylene bags

Monday, July 7th, 2008

We’re always on the lookout for new eco-friendly products to help our clients with their promotions. But an often overlooked aspect is the environmental practices of the manufacturing and printing facilities. Making a greener product is great, but the overall operations of the factories can have just as much of an impact as the products themselves.

With that being said, we wanted to share a statement from one of our primary bag suppliers, who are (and have been) taking the necessary steps to become a more responsible manufacturer:

This year we have added environmentally-friendly paper bags that are made from 100% recycled material and plastic bags that are made from up to 40% recycled material and up to 20% of a non-petroleum calcium filler which reduces the use of petroleum based resins by as much as 60%. Our 100% recyclable and reusable non-woven bags are also made from recycled material that offers an excellent extended life comparable to similar woven bags like nylon or canvas. The non-woven material is non-allergenic, non-toxic and non-corrosive, making it safe for people and the environment. Yet it does not end there. We will continue to explore eco-friendly product options to help protect our environment.

  • All of the recyclable scrap bags generated at our facility from the printing process are recycled by our local recycling service and our plastic bag sources
  • Our imprinting waste byproducts are recycled into alternative fuel energy sources, further eliminating their disposal into landfills.
  • We reuse most raw material cartons and packaging received to reduce the amount of new corrugated material that is required.
  • We have implemented a company-wide recycling program to reclaim the everyday materials we use in our business (paper, bottles, aluminum, etc.) that has also significantly reduced the amount of waste going into the landfill.
  • We have implemented energy-conserving lighting within our warehouse facility that is motion activated and only operates when personnel are working in the area.

You can see this manufacturer’s line here on our website. There are additional products not shown, and they can also help us create custom products for you on request.

Promotional Totes and Coolers

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Tote bags are one of the most popular promotional products of all time. They can be given to attendees at trade shows, meetings and conferences. They make great business gifts, especially when filled with other items. New employees appreciate receiving a logo tote bag on their first day on the job that they can use to carry training materials home in.

Non-woven polypropylene bags are recycled and eco-friendly. They are a great new alternative to traditional nylon bags, and are especially popular for carrying groceries and other purchases in.

Coolers and insulated bags come in numerous styles. They make great travel promotions, can be used at picnics or on the beach, at outdoor concerts and festivals, or sporting events. In the southern states, we have even heard of coolers being used to transport electronics and CD or DVD purchases home from the store, so they don’t melt in the car! Not to mention that for those who pack their own lunches for work or school, insulated lunch bags are a necessity.

Jessica Koronka shows a few of the most popular bag styles in this video:

How Bags are Embroidered

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Logo bags have long been a staple in corporate promotions. Inexpensive bags are often screen printed, but high-end duffels, totes and laptop computer bags are most commonly embroidered.

If you’re like us, you have probably lost a lot of sleep over deep questions about bag decorating. Insomnia begone! We visited one of our embroidery facilities in Chicago, IL and made this video to show you how embroidery works:
